Palmer Harsten, age 18
Palmer was enjoying a family vacation when a car accident caused a spinal cord injury and changed her life. After surgery, Palmer became an inpatient at an Easter Seals Rehabilitation Center. There she received physical and occupational services that allowed her to navigate a wheelchair and learn everyday skills of independence, like dressing and feeding herself. After extensive therapy, Palmer was able to join high-school gymnastics, the cheerleading squad, choir, modeling classes, and wheelchair tennis.
Today Palmer is an active 18-year-old sophomore at Vanderbilt University. “Easter Seals helped put my life back together when I wasn't sure it was possible,” Palmer says, “and taught me that no one can put limits on what I can do because of my disability.”

Marti Clark, age 12
Marti was born with Down syndrome. Receiving little assistance from their physician, Marti’s parents began looking for another source of positive support. When Marti was 1, her family found Easter Seals. It was then that they met teams of caring teachers, therapists, and other health professionals who coached Marti through physical, occupational, and speech therapy.
Today Marti is an adventuresome 12-year-old who loves horseback riding, helping with chores around the house, and riding the bus to school with her friends. “Easter Seals is like an extended family to us,” said Marti’s parents. “When we found Easter Seals, our dreams for our daughter were revealed.”
